The Coalition of Individual Bondholders Forum has written to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to express their disappointment over the non-payment of matured bonds. The coalition, which comprises the Ghana Individual Bondholders Forum and the Individual Bondholders Association of Ghana, claims that despite assurances from the government, it has failed to pay out the matured bonds, which amount to GHS1 billion.

In the petition, the coalition stated that they had requested on four occasions for the Minister of Finance to provide a payment schedule to guide investors, but their request has not been honoured. They added that they recognize the fiscal challenges that the government is facing and expressed their willingness to cooperate over a mutually viable payment schedule and structure.

The coalition emphasized that its members rely on these funds for important needs such as medication, children’s education, and the general welfare of their families. They included pensioners whose sustenance, health, dignity of independence and responsibility in taking care of their young wards and families are contingent on these savings.

“We urge you to take urgent and necessary steps to rationalize this situation and honour your word to effect payments due to individual old bondholders,” the coalition said in the petition.
